Health, character and appearance: these three aspects are central in our cattery. We want to breed healthy, sweet and social kittens with the appearance/look as described in the breed standard. We try give our kittens an interesting pedigree for the Somali. That is one of the reasons we sometimes will go back to the roots of the Somali and go to an Abyssinian boy with our Somali lady.
Health
Of course, a cat must be healthy. Both parents will be tested on Fiv, Felv, PL, PK-Def , PRA and their blood type will be determined. On demand you’re welcome to see their test results.
Character
Very soon after health comes the character of the cats. Because when a cat is very beautiful but also very distantly, shy and/or aggressive, we think nobody would be happy. We want to see the active, playful, social and attached character in the parents. Beside the inherited characteristics, the socialisation of the kittens is also very important.
Appearance
We try to approach the breed standard as much as possible. A warm colour, good ticking, a lovely long and full brushed tail, a beautiful wedge and a strong expression are examples of the things we’d like to see in our cats.
In short, when choosing the parents, we especially attach value to their health and character, but of course also on their appearance. In this way, we hope to breed healthy, sweet and beautiful kittens which hopefully will be a positive contribution to the Somali race.
Other important aspects:
- Our cats have free entrance of the entire house and our cat-proof garden. We have electric fencing around our garden. At this way they can safely enjoy the open air life. From our kitten buyers, we expect that they don’t let them be unprotected outside the house. Because we see our cats enjoy the open air life, we prefer kitten buyers who also have a fenced garden/balcony or a kennel or kitten buyers who want to realise this.
- We feed our cats raw food. We will feed our kittens also raw food, but also a little bit dry premium food so they know that kind of food too.
- All our kittens will be sold with a contract an will go to their new homes when they are at least 13 weeks old.
- The kittens will have a descent socialisation, e.g. contact with other people, children, daily noise (noise of the vacuum cleaner, loud music, etc), car-rides (not only to the vet), etc. Of course we’ll overload them with love and attention.
- The kittens have a Felikat-pedigree, a passport, microchip and the new owners receive the test-results of the parents. They will be vaccinated and are free of parasites.
- We try to give you an update about your (future)kitten every week.
- We will bring the kittens to their new homes personally.
- We appreciate to keep in touch and to hear how the kitten is doing in his/her new home. We would also like to visit the kitten sometime to see how he/she is doing.
- We are Mundikat (Fife) registered and member of Aby2000 and Raskan.
